A federal judge in Texas issued Tuesday an injunction blocking new overtime rules from taking effect. The rule, which was supposed to go into effect Dec. 1, would have required employers to pay overtime to all employees earning $921 a week or $47,892 a year, according to Forbes.com. This was nearly double the current cap, which is $455 a week.
“The injunction halts enforcement of the rule until the government can win a countermanding order from an appeals court,” Daniel Fisher of Forbes writes. “Given Texas is in the conservative Fifth Circuit, that could be a challenge. In the meantime, retailers who would be particularly hard-hit by the rule celebrated.”
